The City Museum, as it was conceived, aims to tell the most emblematic moments of the history of Mantova and a few pieces of its great artistic civilization by developing the Civic Collections retrained in the sixteenth century Palazzo San Sebastiano. It is thus to finally fill that void in the system of museums mantovani generated by the closure at the beginning of the last century the historic Homeland Museum or Civic where the municipal collections were originally collected. This result is the fruit of a search and recovery of the extraordinary heritage of the city.
Thanks to the technology media, the Museum offers both constant references in the direction of the city and its territory, from the report of the origin of the works. The museum also houses inside the Research and Documentation Centre on Civic Collections that allows the public access to all information about the collections housed in the Municipal Museum of the City as well as in other museums in the city.
