Bridge over the Fisheries. Restoration of the parapets and 12 marble grotesques
2013-2014
Work carried out by the restoration company: Ottorino Nonfarmale, San Lazzaro di Savena (BO))
Cost: € 15,500.00 - Financing: Municipal Administration
Type of work
The 12 grotesques carved in Verona marble and upper marble slab of the parapets were affected by cracks, erosion and biological damage caused by moss and lichen. Also found was carbon deposit that created a black crust. The work consisted of removing the dust using a wet brush, application of a biocidal product and, where necessary, dry cleaning with a scalpel, plastering with natural hydraulic lime and aggregates of marble dust and small additions of parts of marble. Finally a coat of light water repellent protection was added.
As regards the intonaco, partially deteriorated and subject to washout and biological damage, it was cleaned and the biological damage removed, the lifted or detached layers of plaster were consolidated by sealing cracks, and the gaps filled with traditional mortar made from lime putty and sand of grain size and colour in line with the existing plaster. A unifying general wash of colour was then applied.(C.P.)
